Microblading Your Eyebrows - The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful

To all local Jacksonvillians, I got my eyebrows microbladed by the gorgeous Jessie Patterson whose studio resides in Jacksonville Beach, FL. I'll leave a link to her Facebook page and booking website at the end!

Alright you guys, I'm sure we've all caught onto the "big, bold, full eyebrow" trend by now, have we not? Unfortunately, those born with little to no natural brows or those who lose their brows' fullness as they age are left wishing there was an easier, quicker way besides filling in their eyebrows every morning before being seen by the public eye.

I really am BLESSED (thank you Baby Jesus, thank you!!!) to be born with dark, thick eyebrows that help frame my face and make my eyes pop. But, if y'all remember back when the pencil thin eyebrows were in... then you can imagine my concern when I had the bushiest, unearthly unibrow only a caveman could love. I can still remember the first time my mom ever trimmed and plucked my eyebrows like it was yesterday... I looked in the mirror and was like - "Why have you never plucked them before!?!?" (Still slightly concerned why she let me walk around with a unibrow - and without a training bra for that matter - for so freakin' long... sigh).

This was back before I even knew that girls my age filled in their brows or did anything to them at all besides get them waxed... Once everyone started complimenting me on my brows and asking if I filled them in, I realized there was a ton of importance placed on these weird hairy things that live above your eyeballs. Who knew?

So I know, especially if you're not that fond of your natural brows, you might be rolling your eyes while reading this, thinking "Ya, ya, ya. Ok, Savanna, we get it!!! You have perfect amazing brows. Why are you even talking about microblading then?" I'm getting to it guys, I promise.

Cue my explanation....

Once I learned that I could enhance my brows even more by filling them in, I started to feel bare on the days that I wouldn't fill them in (which was basically every day), just because I knew what they could look like with just a little more thickness to them. I also have always wanted to have more of a defined arch in my brows, and realized no matter how someone waxed them, what I really needed was more hair on the upper part of my brow to create the arch. When microblading started becoming popular, I was so excited! It's the perfect way to give someone that little bit of an extra arch or reshape their brows however they want, have semi-permanent makeup on (vs. a tattoo that is totally permanent) and it's a way to have one less step when putting on makeup!

What exactly is microblading?

It's a semi-permanent technique to enhance and reshape one's eyebrows using a super-fine pen that deposits pigment into the skin, creating hair-like strokes so fine no one will be able to tell the pigment from your real hair. You usually have an initial appointment and a followup appointment (each last about 2 hours) and from there can live your life with the hottest brows on the street.

How long does microblading last?

The pen's needles reach only into the superficial layers of the skin, which is what makes microblading last anywhere from 1-3 years, depending on your lifestyle (the sweatier, sunnier lifestyle you live, the shorter the lifespan).  <--- With my lifestyle, I'll be lucky if mine even last a full year lol, but it's still totally worth it!

Does it hurt?

The pen is essentially creating little paper-cut like incisions at the top layer of your skin, so I'd definitely recommend using some numbing creme beforehand (and if you're anything like me and it takes you forever to numb up, let your artist know ahead of time so you aren't in pain!). Your brow artist will provide you with some to ensure your utmost comfort.

Should I get microblading done?

Microblading is literally for everyone, whether you have thick, luscious brows, super light/thin brows, or just want more of an arch like I did! Young and older women alike invest in microblading and most people I've talked to agree with me that it has transformed their face in a great way.

Here's a peak into my before, during (after the first treatment, before the second), and after results. Make sure to like my friend Jessie's Facebook page and reach out to her with any questions or inquiries you may have! :) Or if you want to book right now, you can here

Let's live a life full of love and full brows!

xoxo,

Savanna
